The Year That Wasn't

The Year That Wasn't

If you made it to the end of 2020, consider yourself one of the lucky ones.

Not just because you escaped coronavirus (if you caught it and overcame it, you're even luckier!), but because essentially you got a whole year for free in 2020. Think about it. This was a year that, thanks to all the chaos & craziness that is concomitant with a global pandemic, you got a free pass from everyone (including yourself) on everything. If you couldn't graduate from school or university this year like you planned to, no problem! If you couldn't have that big wedding and crazy honeymoon, all good! And if you couldn’t start that business or find that job or get out of bed for weeks on end...you're forgiven. Why? Because COVID :)

In the year that wasn't, it didn't matter what you did or didn't accomplish. It didn't matter how many books you read, miles you ran or countries you visited (I made it to a grand total of 1). All that mattered is that you made it to the end - preferably in one piece - which was a GREAT thing for all of us. Most of the time the world is spinning much too fast and for once, we got the chance to just be ourselves without the usual pressures of work and school and even family weighing us down. We got to just BE.

But now the fun begins. We've been creeping towards 2021 in the same way that a rollercoaster ride creeps toward that first big drop, you know the one that turns your stomach upside down and sends your adrenaline levels through the roof. After being sidelined for months, there is a veritable torrent of electricity just waiting to burst out of all of us.

In the real estate industry which I work in, we're beginning to see the early signs of this comeback in places like Miami, Malibu and London, where the market has just been on fire lately. These “pockets of explosion” in various sectors means one thing and only thing — opportunity. Which brings me to my next question and the entire point of this post: what are you doing to position yourself *now* for the inevitable economic rebound in 2021?

NOW is when you do need to start reading those books, working on that degree, positioning yourself for that job and getting everything in place to launch your business. The world is waiting for your big bright idea, but only YOU can activate it.

So if you're still sitting on your couch, waiting for someone to come along and save you, get up off your butt and get to work, Skippy.

The year that wasn't is over. From here on out, everything counts.

xx
